I hate to be the one with the bad news, but a leak is one of the worst things to have go wrong with your Air Conditioner. I hope it is not that. I am linking to an EPA article explaining the phase out of R22. Click Here for EPA article.
Due to this phase out of R22, the price has been sky rocketing. Every year we get closer to the end (2020). I do not purchase it anymore, but I do have inventory for warranty situations only.
They do make a substitute refrigerant but it CANNOT be mixed with R22.
I would be glad to diagnose the problem, but it is no longer the days of just recharge it and see if it last until next year, the cost is a waste of your money.
BEWARE OF COMPANIES PUTTING DIRTY OLD R22 FROM OLD AIR CONDITIONS THAT THEY REMOVED FROM SOMEONE ELSE’S HOME INTO YOURS AS A FIX.
The new air conditioners use R410A, it is less expensive but it can not work in R22 air conditioners.
It has been about 8 years since we have installed an R22 system, we only install R410A units.
We obviously service all but a leak on an R22 required more explaining.
Let me know if you need me to check it out.
